Effect of magnetic stirring, grain modification and refinement on the solidification structure of an A356 aluminum alloy

The effect of the application forced convection during continuous solidification Al-Si alloys has been presented in this work. investigation made on hypothesis that as an alloy solidifies under action a rotating magnetic field, nondendritic casting structure would be obtained. studied its three different states (original, modified, and modified with grain refiner), using stirring equipment permanent magnets, device allowed study rotational speed (degree stirring) micro- macro- structure, well material’s mechanical properties. With purpose validating hypothesis, analyses tests have carried out, such thermal analysis process, macrostructural analysis, hardness measurements for process conditions studied. results shown affects cooling curves, expanding range. A microstructural evolution also observed, from 100% dendritic to mature rosette type addition notable decreasing size, which improvement behavior.
